Would You Be Able To Reach 911 In An Emergency? |

For any type of emergency, it has been drilled into our heads that all we need to do is call 9-1-1. Schools and parents teach this number over and over to children, so they know exactly what to do in cases where their parents aren't responsive if they find themselves in a bad situation, or for a variety of other conditions. Back in the day, almost everyone had a landline at their home. If you are in your 30's or 40's, this was likely your only means of communication with friends when you were younger. Almost no one had cell phones when they first arrived, nor did anyone genuinely rely on them as their only method of communication as we do now. With the advancement in technology, you can make and receive phone calls from pretty much anywhere. If you don't have mobile service though what can you do? Cell phones are reliable, for the most part. But they have their fair share of connectivity issues. What if in an emergency you couldn't place a call to 911 because your phone had died or you have zero service at your location? The good news is there is a better way to ensure you have the connection you need when emergency strikes if you have a VoIP. Voice over internet protocol can call 911 for you, and even give the dispatcher your precise location. This public survey was done over the reliability of cell phones and how they could connect to 911 dispatch and relay their user's location. The results were shocking. In Washington, D.C., only ten percent of cell phone calls to 911 could be accurately pinpointed. This means an astonishing 90% failed. When considering having only a cell phone as your means of making a 911 call from your home, you should invest alternative means of communication. Having another way to make a call can give you added peace of mind, especially if you find yourself needing help in a crisis. For those that have a prepaid phone, you may find that help may not arrive when you request it if you are unable to verbally give your location or don't know where you are. But with making a phone call over your internet connection, assistance will be able to find you quickly. With technology making huge strides all the time, having these features accessible to you could potentially save your life in an emergency. VoIP service is affordable and gives you an alternative line of communication in the event your cellphone isn't working, or the dispatcher can't pinpoint your location.
